Mt. SAC Invitational : October 25, 2008 - 61st Annual event, Walnut, California; Temperatures were nice in the morning but dry and hot in the afternoon, so much so that heat casualties overwhelmed the local medical treatment centers; races in the mid-afternoon were cut by 1 mile and then the last couple were cancelled.

CIF Southern Section XC Finals : November 22, 2008 - CIF Southern Section XC Finals - held at Mt. SAC, Walnut, California; this gallery covers all 10 races on this challenging 2.95 mile course. The weather was near perfect - perhaps 60 degrees for the first race and no more than the low 70's for the final race. Most of the 10 races had some overlap making it difficult to cover each race entirely from start to finish, but we nearly succeeded, missing only one start with video. With Jake Beckman as videographer and Donal Pearce capturing the action in still images, we offer the following video clip and photograph galleries for your enjoyment.

CIF Southern Section XC Prelims (images from my Nikon D300) : November 15, 2008 - CIF Southern Section XC Prelims - held at Mt. SAC, Walnut, CA; this gallery covers races from 7:30-9:30 a.m. and then picks up again from 2:20-4:00 p.m. The weather was unseasonably warm and extremely dry (5% humidity); this took it's toll on a number of runners who succombed to heat exhaustion and/or dehydration. In all there were 31 races beginning at 7:45 a.m. and ending about 4:00 p.m. with a one-hour respite at in the middle. At the break, the fire department insisted that the afternoon races be shortened and a different course followed. For those familiar with the Mt. SAC 2.93 mile course, the afternoon racers started at the same point, completed two valley loops, then turned left and headed up the saddle, headed up and around Reservoir Hill, climbed the hill, then headed for the finish line in the normal manner. Most of the 31 races had some overlap making it impossible to cover each race entirely from start to finish. With Ian Pearce as videographer and Donal Pearce capturing the action in still images, we offer the following video clips and photographs. We did succeed in capturing some of each and every one of the 31 races and hope you enjoy this gallery.
